Packing Two Adults, a Toddler, and a baby
Picture this: Hot tea in hand, snowflakes drifting down outside, and my little ones pressed against the window in complete awe. After growing up with 23 Wyoming winters under my belt, I thought I’d seen it all – but watching our boys discover snow for the first time? Pure magic! There’s something extra special about seeing your baby’s face scrunch up at that first touch of cold, especially on his first birthday. And don’t get me started on the snow angel attempts!
Heading to Wyoming with kiddos in winter? I know exactly what you’re thinking – what on earth do you pack? Here’s what worked for us when we ventured to a snowy ranch in the middle of nowhere (I mean, February in Wyoming, am I right?).

Winter Outerwear
For cold temperatures, puffer coats are our family’s go-to choice. They’re not just warm – they compress easily in suitcases, though we typically wear them to the airport and tuck them into our Doona bag at the gate. These proved essential for our multiple daily outdoor adventures in the Wyoming winter.
Who can resist this baby Patagonia puffer? Not me. Bonus: The bright colors help my babies stand out in a crowd.
Winter Footwear
When packing for Wyoming winter travel, versatile footwear is key. My choice: waterproof high-top Keds layered with warm crew socks. They’re perfect with both dresses and pants while handling Wyoming snow effectively. My husband packed cowboy boots (fitting for Wyoming!), and the boys wore their warmest high-tops. Don’t forget indoor footwear – slippers were perfect for watching the Wyoming snowfall from our ranch windows.
Cold Weather Layers
Sweaters – Great for layering, I always wear a chunky cable knit sweater over a button up on the plane. This makes it easy to nurse and keep warm. I pack a more casual crew-neck for days.
Pants – Take my husband’s advice and bring two pairs! Of course I ripped a hole in the knee of my jeans on this trip making it extra breezy! I also brought a pair of lined joggers. I love this pair from Athleta. Here is a similar Amazon option.
Hat and gloves to play in the snow, especially important for littles.
For the toddler jeans and flannels.
For the baby long sleeve bodysuit sets.
These layered with their coats were perfect for the short stints we went outside a few times a day.
