A Luxurious Pre-Cruise Stay in Historic Galveston

The moment you step into the Grand Galvez, Galveston’s iconic “Queen of the Gulf,” you’re transported to an era of classic coastal elegance. As a family constantly seeking that perfect blend of luxury and convenience, we’ve found a true gem in this historic beachfront property.

Historic Charm Meets Modern Luxury

The recently renovated lobby perfectly balances historic preservation with contemporary comfort. If you’re headed on a cruise out of Galveston, I have to recommend the Grand Galvez! What a beautiful lobby, classic rooms, and great on-site amenities. I cannot get over the bold design choices and playful beach spaces. Love it!

We flew into Houston Bush airport and took an Lyft over to the hotel in the evening. The hotel staff had a pack-n-play available for our baby and we were able to have a sit-down dinner together before bedtime with the toddler and baby.

The lobby is compartmentalized into the spa, piano bar, coffee shop, arrival desk, swim shop, restaurant, and pool with a touch of history sprinkled throughout. There’s plenty of seating to enjoy the live music in the evening or sip a coffee in the morning sun looking out on the Gulf waters.

A barista stands behind the counter, smiling, while a customer holding a coffee cup turns to look at the camera. A large menu board displaying '1911' and drink offerings is visible on the dark wall behind them.

If you have a little extra time, the pool area is outfitted beautifully and the whole place is right on the beach where they have exclusive seating for guests. It’s a great place to enjoy a bit of Galveston history and enjoy a #aesthetic evening with the family.

On the morning of embarkation, we had breakfast at Miller’s Seawall Grill, a short walk next door, where the boys got their eggies & bacon as well as a vat of Smoked Gouda Grits. If we had the timing lined up, I would have loved to try the Sunday Brunch! The hotel is located less than 10 minutes from the cruise port, we took an uber directly there right after mom got her fancy coffee at 1911.

We are looking forward to our next visit! Have you been? Share your favorite family memories in the comments!
